Nokia Lumia 1020

I’m not sure if the Nokia Lumia 1020 is an amazing camera with a built in smartphone, or a smartphone with a built in amazing camera!  I am baffled by the amount of people I see in and around Boston, or even when I travel to Disney, who lug around an iPad to take pictures.  It’s even funnier when they attempt to hold out their iPad to take a selfie!  The Nokia Lumia 1020 features a 41 megapixel camera.  No that is not a typo, 41 megapixel camera!  As soon as I started testing this phone, I posted a few pictures on facebook and immediately received comment after comment about the quality of the pictures!  Posting them in this blog isn’t going to do them justice, so I have created a shutterfly web page so you can see some of the images.  Check them out at https://nokialumiapictures.shutterfly.com/.

Of course the camera is only one feature of this phone.  As most of you know, I have been an iPhone guy for a long time!  It took me a little while to get used to a windows phone, but once I did, I truly enjoyed the flexibility a windows phone has to offer.  It didn’t seem to matter if I was on wi-fi or 4G, the DualCore 1500 MHz processor was fast and got me where I wanted to go quickly!  It is a much smoother transition with e-mail where a windows phone will give you far more options with outlook and other Microsoft software.  I actually could open an excel file WP_20141017_003and read it with the 4.5″ display!

I thought I would never be able to have all the apps I did with my iPhone, but when push came to shove, I found I really don’t use most of the apps.  The ones I use all the time like facebook, twitter, waze and a few sports apps are either pre-installed or were quick to download.  With a 2000 mHa battery, even with heavy camera use and wi-fi use, I never found myself in a situation where I needed to stop and charge the Lumia 1020.  I felt like the windows phone gave me far more customization for my home screen, putting information I was looking for right there, rather than having to open an app.

As far as size goes, in a world of phones getting bigger and bigger, I found the Nokia Lumia 1020 to be perfect.  If you are looking for a huge phone, check out the big brother of this phone the Nokia Lumia 1520!

I’m sure by now you have seen the commercials of Siri versus Cortana!  I found Cortana (your personal smartphone assistant) to listen to me and know what I like far better than Siri.  As my wife was yelling at Siri, I was getting the information I needed from Cortana!

Lumia1020-US-03-All-Phones-Page-Front-287x500Oh by the way, did I mention that the Nokia Lumia 1020 can make phone calls and text too?  Of course the Lumia 1020 is a full functioning cell phone as well.  Although now a days that seems to be the lowest on the smartphone chain of demands.

With all the features of the Nokia Lumia 1020 has to offer, I would certainly recommend this as a Gotta Have Gadget and instantly put it into the Gotta Have Gadget Hall of Fame!  Check out all the features of this camera…err smartphone at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/mobile/phone/lumia1020/
